Job Opening: Environmental Health Specialist

Organization: DeKalb County Health Department

Job Summary: Duties include but are not limited to:

• Food Establishment Inspections: enforcement of laws, rules, regulations governing the production processing, packaging, distribution of foods. Educate food establishments on proper food sanitation.

• Investigating public health complaints: Investigates complaints about rodents, trash and debris, bed bugs, cockroaches, unfit living conditions, un-maintained swimming pools

• Environmental Public Records Requests: Conducting assessments and searching records • Animal bites investigations: Receive and investigate animal bite reports to prevent rabies infection.

• Tattoo facility inspections: Inspects and educates tattoo/body piercing personnel on infectious waste and universal precautions to prevent transmission of Bloodborne Pathogens and infectious diseases.

• Septic Systems: Assist Senior Environmental Health Specialist with permits and public record requests.

Job Opening: Recreational Water Environmental Health Specialist

Organization: Marion County Public Health Department

Job Summary:  An environmental health specialist in the public bathing facilities program is responsible for routine surveillance and inspection of public pools, spas, beaches, and other recreational water facilities.  Routine inspections of these licensed and unlicensed venues are to ensure compliance with the applicable state and local ordinances, identify risks of waterborne disease transmission to the public, and implement education, enforcement, or other interventions to reduce the risk of recreational water illness and injury.  Routine inspections consist of visual inspection, water quality tests, and sample collection for bacteriological analysis.  The environmental health specialist will also respond to complaints, injuries, and waterborne disease outbreaks, as necessary.

Job Opening: Social Worker - Health Outcomes & Crisis Intervention Specialist

Organization: City of Fishers Health Department

Job Summary: The City of Fishers is seeking a full-time Social Worker - Health Outcomes & Crisis Intervention Specialist to join the Fishers Health Department.  Under the supervision of the Assistant Director of Public Health, the incumbent will be responsible for providing leadership in program development and administrative oversite to preventative health and behavioral health efforts in the City of Fishers. Crisis intervention including provision of short-term clinical therapy, resource connection, and case management services are anticipated to be part of this role.  Experience collaborating with a variety of community agency representatives, as well as extensive knowledge of services available in Hamilton County will be needed. This individual will work closely with public safety, including community paramedicine and police to accept referrals and assure follow up on individuals identified with health needs of various types, including behavioral health, through those channels. Coordination and collaboration with area hospitals, schools and other agencies is a critical component of the role.  The primary objective of this position is to support the extension of efforts started through the community paramedicine program, and to extend those efforts to a more community-focused, public health-based preventative approach to physical and behavioral health issues. This is currently a 2-year grant funded position.

Job Summary: The Indoor Air Quality Specialist investigates properties and enforces codes designed to protect public health and the environment as they relate to indoor air quality. The Indoor Air Quality Specialist inspects and/or performs environmental monitoring in residential, commercial, industrial, and institutional facilities to assess exposure to indoor air contaminants. The Indoor Air Quality Specialist educates the public and the regulated community on indoor air quality health issues and the public health principles behind recommended or required actions. The Indoor Air Specialist communicates risk and information to the public through both writing and speech. The Indoor Air Specialist performs assigned tasks related to environmental and public health protection during emergency events or disasters. The Indoor Air Specialist may be required to work after hours and/or to be on call as circumstances warrant. If assigned to the Secondary Hazardous Materials is responsible to complete training to fulfill responsibilities as a Secondary Hazmat responder. Secondary Hazardous Materials Specialist is responsible for conducting emergency responses, inspections, investigations and surveys to incidents or situations involving hazardous materials/wastes, infectious materials, environmental pollution and radiation sources. The Hazardous Materials Specialist performs twenty-four hour (24 hour) response on a rotating basis.

Job Summary: 

  • Assures compliance with federal, state, and local regulations and the safety of all faculty, staff, students, and visitors by conducting and documenting regular safety inspections of facilities on IU campuses.
